THIS WEEK IN BIOLOGY

First, Mr. Hatfield's students have a new syllabus for Unit 6:

Students, please notice that the first item on this syllabus is the (now-past-due) 100-point project "A Twist of Fate."   Students who have not attempted this assignment are having their home contacted and detention assigned.

Second, here are the notes on Mutations (Parts 1 and 2) that form the basis of Lecture Guide 2 shown in the syllabus above:

A PDF of the Lecture Guide based upon the Power Point is available here.

"TWIST OF FATE" DUE FRIDAY

Students:

Just as a reminder, you have a major 100-point assignment due in this course this Friday!

This assignment requires you to create an electronic document and attach that document to an email, which should then be sent to your instructor's email address.

This assignment, called 'A Twist of Fate', is based on the true story of how Watson and Crick  determined the structure of DNA.

You can find a PDF of that assignment here.

Failure to attempt the assignment by midnight on Friday, February 20th, will lead to a home contact and likely discipline.

MAJOR EVENTS IN BIOLOGY THIS WEEK AND NEXT

First, some students have failed to complete the first major assignment of this unit:

"REVIEWING THE FALL SEMESTER"

Students who have failed to do this have had their home contacted by School Messenger and warned repeatedly by their instructor.   They will now be assigned lunch detention.   Failure to attend without a parent contact will be treated as defiance and referred.

Secondly, the NEXT major assignment of this unit:

"A TWIST OF FATE"

...is due at the beginning of class on Tuesday, February 10th.

AFTER-SCHOOL STUDY SESSION

...occurs on the same date, beginning at 3:30, in Room N-63 on February 10th.   A signup sheet ('first come, first served') will be shared during Tuesday's class.

UNIT TEST:

...a Study Guide for this test was given in class on Friday.   The test will occupy the entire class period on Wednesday, February 11th.   Additional time to complete every part of the test will be given at lunch and after school on that date.  Students, please plan ahead.   Additional time will not be given without a parent contact if you do not take advantage of the time given on Wednesday.

Finally....all the notes for Chapter 12 are available on-line in this earlier blog post.
